The Birds Of Israel

SOUTHBURY — On Tuesday, February 17, the next meeting of The Western Connecticut Bird Club will feature a slide show and talk on “The Birds of Israel” by Dr Robert DeCandido.

Dr DeCandido is a Bronx native and former president of The Linnaean Society of New York who is currently studying bird migration in Israel, Turkey, Malaysia and Thailand.

The talk will feature his bird migration research in Eilat, Israel. Eilat sits at the crossroads of a major spring migration route. Birds returning from Africa to nest in Eastern Europe and Western Asia often “fallout” in Eilat after crossing the Sahara Desert.

Dr DeCandido’s slides will feature shrikes, pipits, wagtails, rollers, night jars, flycatchers, thrushes and woodpeckers.

The Western Connecticut Bird Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at Southbury Public Library, 561 South Main Street (Route 6).

A 30-minute social gathering begins at 6:30 pm, and the meeting will run from 7 pm to 9 pm. The public is invited.

For more information contact club president Larry Fischer at 426-3901.
