Valentines For Veterans

To the Editor:

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc, would like to thank all who responded to our “Valentines for Veterans” project. The response was overwhelming. Almost 400 valentine cards — some containing chocolate candy kisses and lollipops — were sent to the two Veterans’ Hospitals in the state.

Most of the valentines were handmade and extremely creative and well done. Some of the groups contributing valentines were: Brownie and Daisy Scout Troops 166, 207, 236, 293, 295, 314, 371, and 749 in Newtown; Girl Scout Troop 4201 in Middlebury; YAB of Youth Services; Misty Morning Children’s Center; Sandy Hook School Kindergarteners both am and pm classes; Saturday’s Children’s Art Workshop at the Booth Library; Stamford High School Fine Arts Department; members of The Newtown Woman’s Club; and many other caring people.

I’m sure these cards are going to make Valentine’s Day a little brighter and cheerier for the men and women veterans who receive them.
