We are mourning the loss of Deborah B. Lyon (64), who died surrounded by family on January 29, 2026 in Rockport, Maine. Over three years ago, Deb was diagnosed with Stage IV fallopian tube cancer and fought to live each day with joy and conviction. She was a woman of incredible strength.

Deb is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Richard; three children Philip, Jillianne and her spouse Beni, and Sarah Katherine and her wife Callie; two brothers Bob Belch and Brian Edwards; and many beloved friends and family members. Deb will be remembered for her fierce devotion to family, commitment to community, meticulous cleaning skills, love of food, quick wit, active lifestyle, an undefeated cribbage record, and the most beautiful garden in Camden.

Born in Hartford, Deb attended the University of Connecticut and was proud of her over 40-year career as a clinical dietitian. She found joy in applying science to help people of all backgrounds. Deb lived in Newtown for 21 years and was a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church. In 2017, Deb moved to Camden, Me., with her family and continued her dietetic work in the mid-coast region until she retired following her diagnosis in 2022. In retirement, she took great pleasure in a second career as a BNB hostess, learning to play bridge and pickleball with Richard, traveling with her friends, and reading with her book club. She never let her diagnosis stop her from doing what she loved and will be dearly missed in her respective communities.

In lieu of flowers, Deb requested donations to FORCE, an organization fighting hereditary cancer (https://www.facingourrisk.org/donate), or support for a memorial garden at the Lyon family camp (venmo @SKLyon). With her recent diagnosis, Deb learned her cancer was hereditary, caused by the BRCA2 gene mutation. This was also likely the cause of her breast cancer in 2015. It brought her immense comfort to know that there are preventative measures available for her children; may the legacy of family cancer end with her.

Her family would like to thank the Sussman House and MaineHealth Cancer Care for their wonderful support. A wake will be held on Friday, February 27, from 4:30-7 pm, at Merryspring Nature Center in Camden, Me. The memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 28, at 10 am, at the Our Lady of Good Hope church in Camden, with a reception in town following at 40 Paper.
