Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation Concludes Operations, Releases Final Report
Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation (NSHCF), established to address the immediate and long-term needs arising from the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, announced its formal closure effective December 16, 2025, following the successful completion of its strategic goals.
The Foundation has now released its final report, detailing its community impact and key lessons learned over more than a decade of service.
Over the past 12 years, Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation made significant progress in promoting mental wellness, emotional resilience, and community healing in the aftermath of 12/14. The foundation provided more than $13.5 million in financial support for mental health and wellness services, recovery-focused grants, and essential programs that strengthened community leadership and capacity.
NSHCF Board Chair Christopher McDonnell said the accomplishments “reflect a deeply collaborative effort — anchored not only in the Foundation’s leadership, but also in the dedication and partnership of service providers, donors, and community members.
“We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and have been guided by love for our neighbors, a commitment to community, and the enduring memory of the lives lost,” he added.
The Foundation’s final report is available at nshcf.org.
