Battle Of The Books Returning To Booth Library
Battle Of The Books Returning To Booth Library
Signups are open until March 1 for the third annual Battle of the Books trivia contest to be held Saturday, March 17, at C.H. Booth Library.
Students who either live or attend school in Newtown in grades 5 through 8 may form a team of three to five friends and test their knowledge of these four books: For Freedom by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, Thunder from the Sea by Joan Hiatt Harlow, and Brainboy and the Deathmaster by Tor Seidler.
The first place team members will each win a $20 gift certificate to an area bookstore and the winning team membersâ names will be inscribed on a plaque in the Young Adult Department. Also, each member may select a book that the library will purchase and dedicate in his or her name. The second place team will each win a $10 gift certificate to an area bookstore.
Last year 16 teams competed in the Battle of the Books. If more than eight teams sign up, there will be elimination rounds at noon with the final round at 1 pm.
Teams can sign up at the library until March 1. Complete information packets are available upon registration.
Trivia questions on the four books must be submitted by March 10, and an optional practice round will be held on March 13.
