Marjorie Evans Sanford

Marjorie Evans Sanford, 88, died on February 8, at the Mayo Healthcare Facility in Northfield, Vt. She was born on March 26, 1918, in Westport, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Bates) Evans.

She is survived by a sister, Marion Bargetti of Newtown; three sons and their wives, John B. and Edith Sanford of West Redding; Donald and Sally Sanford of Chelsea, Vt., and Bruce and Jackie Sanford of West Redding; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren,  and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John B. Sanford, Jr in 2005; her son, David A. Sanford; and a brother, Burton Evans.

Mrs Sanford graduated from high school in Westport, and then began her nurse’s training. She married her husband on May 16, 1937. They lived in the Redding area for many years. Following her husband’s retirement, they moved to Chelsea West Hill, Vt., in 1980.

She was a founding member of the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the local Homemakers Knitting Club. She was active in Long Ridge Dinners and the dinners at the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, where she made the original draperies for the hall.

A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway and Ciley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt.
