In Newtown?

To the Editor:

Neocons move in on Newtown?

That’s the first thing that came to mind after witnessing the shameful display by a handful of misguided people at the Legislative Council on Wednesday night. Drinking the Kool-aid of half-truths provided by a few with a wrongly motivated political agenda. Sound familiar? These are the same types that sold us a war. They spouted their talking points and didn’t have the decency to remain to see their lies and accusations confronted and shattered by the truth. Just a sample:

1. Fact: The town offices were part of the original plan.         

2. Fact: No less than three letters requesting co-office space by the Board of Education.

3. Fact: The Board of Education gets, are you ready, $0.69 of every dollar collected in taxes.

4. Fact: The Board of Education knew last night that:

    a. They had over $250,000 left last year in their budget and chose not to replace the seats in the middle school auditorium.

    b. The $80,000 needed to replace those seats was available a few days ago and they knew it yet stood by and worse yet, joined in on the shameless assault.

We should challenge the Board of Finance to do what they have finally done in Washington. Check where and how all the treasure is being spent and hold this out-of-control Board of Education responsible for their spending. Oh yeah, and throw out the power hungry Newtown neocons before they do to us locally what they have done to us worldwide.
