Public Events Planned At Beardsley Zoo

BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will host two public events this month, each taking place at the zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue. Zoo admission, which includes activities (unless stated otherwise), is $9 for adults, $7 for children age 3-11 and seniors, and free to members of Connecticut Zoological Society.

Asian New Year will be celebrated from noon until 3 pm on Saturday, February 17. It’s the Year of the Boar, and the zoo will offer a tribute to the Tamworth pigs in its New England Farmyard. Visitors can enjoy crafts and storytime in the warmth of Professor Beardsley’s Research Station and the colorful Carousel Building. Snow date is February 24.

During the week of February 19-23 the zoo will host Cupid’s Corner school break program. This program for kindergarten and elementary age children and their families will feature a different animal each day.

Programs offered at 2 pm Monday through Friday will continue to celebrate the Valentine’s Day spirit with a special view of animal relationships and families. The interactive 45-minute programs may include a live animal, animal stories and animal facts as participants answer questions in the warmth and comfort of Professor Beardsley’s Research Station.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit any zoo or aquarium for assurance that the facility is dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for its visitors, and a better future for all living things. With more than 200 accredited members, AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation and a link to helping animals in their native habitats.
