Wanted! Newtown Babe Ruth Umpires

Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball is in need of replenishing its list of in-town umpires. Any baseball player 14 years of age or older can become a Babe Ruth certified umpire. This will allow you to begin working in-town Newtown Cal Ripken Division (ages 9-12) baseball games. Each “Patched” umpire working an in-town game will receive $40 per game, paid by check every two weeks. Games take place either week nights starting at 5:30 pm or Saturdays and Sundays at differing times. Many of last year’s first-time umpires worked as many as five to six games during the spring season. This will also make you eligible to umpire Fall Ball games that are played from late August through October. This is a great way to earn some extra cash while doing something that you will learn to love. Most games last no more than two hours. To be eligible, you must attend an upcoming Umpire Clinic and complete the Babe Ruth Umpire examination, which requires a $30 membership fee. The $30 fee is required to attend the clinic and will be collected at the clinic along with $2.50 for a 2007 Rule Book. Umpire Clinics will take place Saturdays, March 10 and March 17, 12 noon to 2:30 pm, at the Newtown High School cafeteria. If interested, please forward the following information to Matt McGrath at mattmcgrat@aol.com or 364-0632 as soon as possible: Name, phone number, email address, other phone number, address, city, zip code.
