Subaru vs Mercedes

At about 3:57 pm on February 6, motorist Yan Chau-Leung, 50, of Danbury, was driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz S-430 sedan northward on Main Street, as motorist John Knaggs, 52, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Forester, was waiting in a driveway at 54 Main Street while facing west and preparing to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, police said.

The Subaru then attempted to enter Main Street and the two vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Knaggs an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle, and also verbally warned Knaggs for failure to grant the right of way.

Toyota vs Cable

Police report that at about 7:54 am on February 9, when local roads were snow-covered due to a storm, motorist Ulysee Swinton, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, west of Johnnie Cake Lane, slid on the slippery pavement.

The Toyota then struck the westbound curb, after which it went off the roadway and struck a stabilizing cable for a utility pole, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Swinton for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrant

Police report that on February 10, they served a warrant against prisoner Nathaniel Greenfield, 37, of Bethel, charging him with third-degree larceny in connection with his alleged theft of two chain saws on April 16, 2015.

Greenfield pleaded not guilty to the charge at his February 10 arraignment in state Superior Court in Danbury. He is scheduled to return to court on February 24.

Greenfield is being held by the state Department of Correction at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers where he is serving a three-year prison term on a conviction for possession of narcotics.

Washington Avenue Accident

Police said that a two-vehicle accident occurred on Washington Avenue, near Pearl Street, about 9:05 am on February 10, but that the incident was not reported to them until about 2:48 pm that day.

Police said the collision occurred in heavy traffic on southbound Washington Avenue. The incident involved motorist Emilyrose Dirga, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, and motorist Trane Kessler, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Subaru, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Oakview Road Accident

At about 9:14 am on February 10, when local roadways were covered with snow and slush, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Oakview Road at its intersection with Watkins Drive, police said.

The collision involved motorist Riley Smith, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion, and motorist Nathalie Racines, 23, of Bethel, who was driving a 2016 Jeep Renegade SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Smith for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

South Main Sideswipe

Police said motorist Bettyann Dresser, 70, of Newtown was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry sedan in the left southbound lane of South Main Street just north of its intersection with Cold Spring Road at about 4:56 pm on February 10, as motorist Michael Crolla, 32, of Milford was driving a 2001 Jeep Compass SUV in the right southbound lane there.

The Jeep then attempted to merge into the left southbound lane, but sideswiped the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Crolla an infraction for passing on the right and for improper passing.

Slippery Roadway

Police said that motorist Christopher Mok, 17, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastward on a snow-covered Riverside Road, near its intersection with Narragansett Trail, at about 10:39 pm on February 10, when the vehicle went out of control, traveled off the left road shoulder, and then struck a utility pole.

Police said Mok was transported to the hospital by ambulance to be evaluated for possible injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Mok for traveling too fast for conditions.

Honda vs Audi

Police said motorist Bernt Nygaard, 56, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2016 Audi A-4 auto westward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Commerce Road, about 12:04 pm on February 10, stopped for a red traffic signal, after which the Audi was struck from behind by a westbound 2013 Honda Accord driven by Iordan Bourilkov, 61, of Bethany.

Nygaard received a possible injury, police said. Bourilkov was verbally warned for following too closely, police said.

Church Hill Road Collision

Police said that eastbound motorist Osmonnie Erat, 51, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Acura MDX SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Commerce Road, at about 2:19 pm on February 11, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Acura was struck from behind by motorist Kaia Fahrenholz, 53, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Prius.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Fahrenholz a written warning for following too closely.

Wet Pavement

Motorist Nicolo Bonasera, 16, of Newtown was driving a 1990 BMW 325-IX sedan eastward on a curve on a wet Rock Ridge Road, near its intersection with Robin Hill Road No 2, at about 3:14 pm on February 11, when the vehicle went out of control and hit a snowbank, after which it slid off the road and struck a tree, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Bonasera a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to carry a driver's license.

Snowy Conditions

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Great Quarter Road amid adverse weather conditions about 12:26 pm on February 12, according to police.

The accident involved motorist Frank Pelaggi, Jr, 23, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, and motorist Christine Tyrrell, 48, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement due to weather conditions.

Three Vehicles Collide

Police report a three-vehicle collision on northbound South Main Street, near its northern intersection with Pecks Lane, at about 2:19 pm on February 13.

Police report that motorist Scott Weiss, 49, of Wayne, N.J., who was driving a 2016 Chrysler vehicle, and motorist David Shaenfield, 41, of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., who was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Jonathan Bond, 60, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Ford F-350 truck, struck the rear end of the Toyota, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of the Chrysler.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bond an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 1:27 pm on February 14 on South Main Street, near its intersection with Prospect Drive, police report.

Motorist Sean Goggins, 25, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2015 Ford Fusion southward on South Main Street, stopped, after which the Ford was struck from behind by southbound motorist Francis Dunne, 70, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Dunne for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Jeep vs Pole

Police report that at about noon on February 15, motorist Jaime Davis, 29, of Bethel, who was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler SUV westward near 30 Plumtrees Road, crossed into the opposite lane and then drove off the left road shoulder, striking a utility pole. Following the impact, the Jeep rolled over, after which Davis freed herself from the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries.

The shattered utility pole needed to be replaced. Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters and Newtown volunteer ambulance staffers responded to the scene.

Police said the accident is under investigation.

A mass of snow and ice that fell from the top of a traveling box truck at about 11 am on February 13 landed on the windshield of this Hyundai Elantra sedan, as it was traveling in the opposite direction, shattering the windshield, police said. The incident occurred on Toddy Hill Road, near Sugarloaf Road. The man who was driving the Hyundai was startled, but not injured, police said. The incident is under investigation. Police remind drivers that state law requires snow/ice to removed from atop vehicles after storms. Violations carry a $120 fine. (Newtown Police Department photo)
