MAYA DREAMS: TEXTILE TRADITIONS’ AT MIN- NEAPOLIS INSTITUTE OF ARTS

AVV 1-31 #686786

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — “Maya Dreams: Textile Traditions Of The Guatemalan Highlands” is on view at The Minneapolis Institute of Art through April 8.

This exhibition presents brilliantly colorful and richly patterned Guatemalan textiles — a living expression of an ancient Maya tradition. Artisans from the 60 major weaving centers in the highlands of Guatemala create distinctive regional identities using specific colors, layouts and design motifs and is drawn entirely from the MIA’s permanent collection.

Imagery, from fanciful birds and mythological animals to abstract representations of natural and celestial phenomena, is executed in intricate brocades and dense embroideries.

The museum is at 2400 Third Avenue South. For more information, www.artsmia.org or 612-870-3131.
