Nicer In Newtown?

To The Editor:

It is deeply disappointing that Brandon Moore, a newcomer to our community, chose to disparage our State Representative, Mitch Bolinsky, with an inflammatory online post. In his remarks, Mr Moore asks, “Was Mitch Bolinsky laughing when Renee Good and Alex Pretti were murdered in Minneapolis?”

This statement was not only wildly inappropriate, particularly when directed at someone Mr. Moore does not personally know, it is also profoundly untrue. My friend Mitch Bolinsky is a compassionate individual who has served our community with integrity, kindness and quiet dignity for many years. He is widely respected as our State Representative.

Moore’s remarks reflect more about his own character than about Mitch’s. His willingness to personally attack and defame someone for political advantage is troubling. He continued with, “Mark my words: He’s going to have a much different expression on his face this November,” a comment that comes across as unnecessarily arrogant and antagonistic.

As someone relatively new to Newtown and now seeking public office here, Mr Moore would benefit from embracing our community’s long-standing culture of civility and respect, often summed up as “Nicer in Newtown.”
