Cheerleading Program

Has Come A Long Way

To the Editor:

I am writing to congratulate the NHS Co-ed Cheerleaders on their 3rd Place finish at the SWC Competition! I am a former member/captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad at NHS (‘94–‘97) and I must say it is quite a thrill to see how successful the cheer program has become over the years. It was not long ago that the cheerleading program at NHS was classified as an activity as opposed to the sport it truly is.  The program had no substantial try-out policies, no properly qualified coaching staff (if we even had a coach that year), and almost no financial support from the administration — not to mention some seriously outdated uniforms.  At the rate of success the program has been having since then, I really believe it’s only a matter of time before we’ll see an NHS squad on the floor at a national competition! I applaud all the members and coaches on their hard work and dedication to the continued success of the cheerleading program at NHS. You’ve come a long way!
