Fresh Air Fund Seeks Summer Hosts

The Fresh Air Fund is seeking Newtown residents who would be willing to host a child from a disadvantaged neighborhood in New York City for two weeks or longer this summer.

Each summer nearly 5,000 New York City children get the opportunity to live in the country through the Fresh Air Fund. Many of the children visit the same family each year.

This year, the Fresh Air Fund needs more families to volunteer as hosts for the Friendly Town Program. The host family can choose the age and gender of their visitor. There are no financial requirements; all that is needed is time and love.

First-time visitors range in age from 6 to 12 and can be invited back through the fund until they reach the age of 18. Many families keep in contact with the child year-round and form lifelong bonds.

To learn more about the Fresh Air Fund and hosting a child, contact Susan Dann at 790-1465 or call the fund at 800-367-0003. There also is a website at www.freshair.org.
