Marjorie A. Krafick

Marjorie A. Krafick, wife and soul mate of 42 years, passed away January 26 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. A Newtown resident for the last 40 years, she met her Savior while residing with her husband, daughter and daughter’s family in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born in Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada; graduated high school and journeyed to Springdale at the age of 18 years, was hired and approved as a governess for a Stamford family. Later she became a laboratory technician during which time she met her husband and was married in the Russian Orthodox Faith.

Until the onset of her illness, Mrs Krafick was employed for approximately 20 years by the former Shawmut and present Fleet Bank in Newtown where she brightened the lives of her co-workers and bank customers with her quick smile, kind words, sense of humor and her “signature” envelope sketches. Her love of flowers and gardening was evidenced by the five gardens that surround her home. She also looked forward to the yearly arrival of bluebirds and hummingbirds to her garden.

She will be sorely missed by her husband, Tom; her daughters, Lisa and family of Mesa, Ariz., Cheryl and family of Danbury; and son, Tom Jr, and family of Redondo Beach, Calif. She leaves seven grandchildren, Cheryl’s Taylor Ann, Rebecca Lynn and Rachel Marie; Lisa’s Kalina Joy and Malea Rose; and Tom’s Kyle Thomas and Katelyn Isabelle. She is also survived by sisters, Mary Cecile Dithurbide of Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Pearlina Poirier of Prince Edward Island; and brother, Gordon Doucet of Sydney; and many nieces and nephews.

Family members will attend a private graveside funeral and interment service in St Platon’s Cemetery on Saturday, March 27, followed by a memorial service at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, 17 Roberts Avenue, Danbury, with the Rev Luke Mihaly officiating.  A reception to receive relatives and friends will follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Orthodox New Church Building Fund, 70 Joe’s Hill Road, Danbury CT 06811, or to Hospice of the Valley, Fund Development, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix AZ 85014-5656.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
