Ochs To Offer Free Watercolor Program

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have guest artist Richard Ochs during its next meeting. The group will be at Newtown Meeting House on Wednesday, February 25. The program will begin at 1:30 pm and all are welcome, free of charge.

Mr Ochs will be painting a watercolor landscape in the building’s lower level meeting room.

Mr Ochs takes an impressionistic approach to painting a watercolor, giving the viewer the sense that they have just happened upon a scene and are suddenly immersed in all the sensations of the outdoors.

Mr Ochs studied under the well-known watercolorist John Pike, National Academician.

Mr Ochs, who lives in Newburgh, N.Y., is represented in galleries and collections on the eastern seacoast from Connecticut to Florida. He is a member of many organizations including Salmagundi Club, Society of Marine Artists, and North East Watercolor Society.

This month Mr Ochs received The Ogden Pleissner Memorial Award for a watercolor at The Salmagundi Club, and in 2003 he received awards from Hudson Valley Art Association and North East Watercolor Society.

Mr Ochs will return to town to conduct a workshop for SCAN on Saturday, February 28. All SCAN activities are open to the public. Call 426-6654 for details on the demonstration or workshop.
