Women In Ancient Maya Politics

SOUTHBURY — Nadzia Borowski will present a talk, “The Royal Maya Queens and The Role of Women in Ancient Maya Politics” as the next discussion in Southbury Public Library’s ongoing BookTalk series.

Ms Borowski’s program will be in the library’s community room on Monday, March 1, at 2 pm. Admission is free.

Although not a professional archaeologist, Nadzia Borowski calls herself “an informed amateur” with an interest in the Yucatan of Chichen, Itza, Uxmal, the Mesoamerica of Copan, Tikal, Calakmul, and Naranjo, among other locations.

A member of the Society of American Archaeology, The Archaeological Institute of America and the Pre-Columbia Society of Washington, D.C., Ms Borowski travels regularly with professional archaeologists. Her lectures on the Maya are presented both to the professionals and the public.

Participants are invited to read anything on the history of ancient Maya culture, and then listen to Ms Borowski’s lecture and discuss their readings with her.

Southbury Public Library is at 561 Main Street South (Route 6). Contact Hilja Wescott, 264-1616, or Lois Wolsch, 262-6123, for additional information.
