Forum Hopes To Promote Volunteerism

Peter Johnson, general manager for Starbucks at 34 Church Hill Road, announces a forum for the residents of Newtown and their surrounding communities to connect with nonprofit organizations in need of volunteers to help serve Newtown and the surrounding area.

“As you are certainly aware,” said Mr Johnson, “these are tough times for our community and the country. There are many organizations in Newtown that require the help of volunteers. So I thought it would be a great idea to hold a monthly Volunteer Open House at our coffee shop and bring local organizations to meet our patrons, or any interested Newtown resident, and possibly fill some needed volunteer positions.”

The event will take place the last week of every month, at the Church Hill Road Starbucks. Days and times will change during that last week to capture the diverse schedules of residents of Newtown. The next session is Monday, February 23, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Newtown Youth & Family Services and Newtown Parks & Recreation will participate, providing information on how residents can volunteer.
