R. Eugene Bolmer
R. Eugene “Gene” Bolmer, 91, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at The Monarch in Southbury.
Born in Greenwich, he was the son of the late Marion (Kaechele) Bolmer and George R. Bolmer, Sr. He later moved with his family to Fairfield, where he attended high school. The family eventually settled in Easton, where they built their home and farmed the land.
Gene, along with his brother Nufer, founded Bolmer Homes. Through their hard work and dedication, they built many homes throughout Newtown, including on Key Rock Road, Longview Heights, Overlook Drive, and Brookwood Drive. Gene was a highly skilled and respected backhoe operator, known for his precision, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to doing the job right.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gene was an enthusiastic gardener who took great pride in growing his own crops and preparing them immediately after harvest. He found his greatest joy with his hands in the soil, cultivating not only plants but lasting friendships within his community.
He is survived by his brother, George R. Bolmer, Jr; his four children, Ronald (Briana) Bolmer, Todd (Erin) Bolmer, Wendy (John) Tita, and Nancy (Edward) Cody; eight grandchildren, Todd Jr (Marissa) Bolmer, Andrew (Ally) Bolmer, John Jr (Nicole) Tita, Lauren (Chris) Smith, Ryan Tita, Timothy Bolmer, Rebecca Bolmer, and Samantha Cody; and five great-grandchildren, Eva Williams, Savana and Scarlet Bolmer, Riley Tita, and Cillian Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Nufer Bolmer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 11 am, at The Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the Flagpole) in Newtown, followed by a celebration of life. A private burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Newtown Ambulance or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
