.The vigil was announced on February 20. Newtown students, teachers, and community members are encouraged to RSVP to attend the event through a Facebook event page,

The announcement read: "On February 14, 2018, a gunman with assault weapons killed 17 students and teachers at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The Newtown students, having lived through a similar tragedy on December 14, 2012, are hosting a candlelight vigil for the Newtown community to remember the victims and to support the community of Parkland."

The vigil is set to start at 6 pm and run until 7:30 pm.
