Occupation: I’m the Aquatics Director for the Town of Newtown. I started in March of 2019. The duties entail teaching lifeguard class, putting together/teaching swim lessons, running the pool on a day-to-day basis, etc. Then in May, I also run both Eichler’s Cove beach and Treadwell pool. I love teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding class by being able to teach a kid how to be safe in and around the water.

Family: I was born in Rhode Island. My parents met in college. My dad’s company transferred us out to Ohio when I was 5 years old. About six years ago I made the choice to move closer to my grandparents and the rest of my family.

Pets: I have three dogs; Max, Mindy, and Stella.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to spend my free time by taking Stella, my one-and-a-half-year-old puppy, on hikes and to spend time with my friends and family.

What is your favorite travel destination? My favorite place to travel is Portugal. I spent two weeks there in September and spent time with my family. I love all the food, and they have 300 days of sunshine every year.

What is the best part about Newtown? I love the old New England town feel and the different places to go hiking and just be in the great outdoors.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My greatest influence is my grandmother, Jannette Roy. She was born and raised in Canada, and when she came to the USA she would only speak French. She was the mother of eight kids and the strongest person I know.

What is your favorite genre of music? It just depends on the day and how I’m feeling. So this is a hard question to answer. I like a little bit of everything. I have been listening to a lot of folk and rock music lately.

Do you have a favorite TV show? Good Bones or Top Chef.

What is your favorite food? Portuguese Pork Alentejana.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? “The ones who say ‘you can’t’ and ‘you won’t’ are probably the ones scared that ‘you will.’” My mom is the one that always said it this exact way. She always wanted me know that I could do anything I wanted in life and that no one could tell me what I was and was not able to do in my life.

What is something you cannot live without? My family and a good slice of pizza.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Buying my first house and totally remodeling it. I took the whole house down to the studs, put all new drywall up, and put in one new bathroom and a brand new kitchen. I still have one more bathroom to complete. Then the house will be all done.
