Dislodged Snow And Ice Damage Vehicles On I-84
State police report a spate of auto accidents on Interstate 84, in which masses of snow and ice frozen in place on various vehicles eventually dislodged and struck nearby traveling vehicles, damaging them. Several of those accidents occurred in Newtown.
Due to weather conditions, snow that fell in a storm on February 14 became sealed under an icy crust. Some motorists did not clean that crusted snow off their vehicles.
About 10:19 am February 15, motorist Heang Kim Tan, 26, of West Hartford was driving a 2004 Nissan Altima westward on I-84, near Exit 9, when an unknown westbound truck lost a mass of snow and ice from its roof, which then struck the Altimaâs windshield, state police said.
The truck continued traveling. Tan was not injured.
About 3:33 pm February 15, motorist Marita Wojdak, 65, of Exeter, N.H., was driving a 1995 Mercury Sable westward on I-84, near Exit 9, when the Mercuryâs windshield was struck by a mass of snow and ice that flew off of another unknown vehicle, state police said. Wojdak was not injured.
Also, about 11 am February 16, motorist Marya Bazzoni, 44, of Southbury was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition westward on I-84, near Exit 10, when ice and snow flew off an unknown westbound vehicle, which was in front of the Ford, damaging the Fordâs windshield.
