Katherine C. Pekar

Beloved Wife

Katherine C. Pekar, 91, beloved wife of Stephen J. Pekar of Sandy Hook, died February 19 in Griffin Hospital, Derby. She was born in Stratford on November 15, 1915, a daughter of Peter and Annie (Spodnick) Sabol.

A resident of Sandy Hook for 61 years, Mrs Pekar was a member of the Newtown Senior Center and was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed painting with acrylics. Mr and Mrs Pekar would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on May 18, 2007.

In addition to her husband, Mrs Pekar is survived by her daughter, Kathleen P. Dudley of Orlando, Fla.; her son, William S. Pekar and his wife, Patty, of Sandy Hook; two brothers, Frank Sabol of Sandy Hook and Ed Sabol and his wife, Vi, of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Potak of Stratford; four grandchildren, Michelle D. Grossman, Michael B. Dudley, Maureen L. Pekar, and Helene R. Dudley; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Harris Grossman and Emily Katherine Grossman.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral Friday, February 23, at 10 am from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 10:30 am in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery. Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm.
