Nutmeg Nines: When CT

Had Major League Baseball

NAUGATUCK — Dave Arcidiacono will be the guest speaker for Naugatuck Historical Society on Thursday, March 1, at 7 pm.

Mr Arcidiacono’s presentation, titled “Nutmeg Nines Major League Baseball in Connecticut,” will focus on three Connecticut major league teams from the 19th Century — Murnane’s Middletown Mansfields, the Hartford Dark Blues and the New Haven Elm City Club, all of whom played in the 1870s. The Dark Blues were a charter member of the National League.

Mr Arcidiacono will also have on display replicas of equipment, balls, bats and gloves from the period. He will bring copies of his books and will sign purchased copies. Refreshments will follow the talk.

The Naugatuck Historical Society is at 195 Water Street (the former train station). For information, call 203-729-9039.
