Rotary Announces February

Students Of The Month

Newtown Rotary President Larry Gardner presented certificates to the February Students of the Month during the February 12 meeting at The Inn at Newtown. The evening proved to be an extra large meeting as the parents, teachers and family also attended to support those being honored.

The honorees for February were: Alexander Romeo, fifth grade, and Julia Trudell and Kristen Campbell, sixth grade, Reed Intermediate School; Isabella DeMedeiros, seventh grade , and Gretchen Street, eighth grade, both from Newtown Middle School; Brittany Mortera, eighth grade, St Rose School; and Brianna Eckhardt, a senior at Newtown High School.

Rotarian Dr Tony Salvatore, who is also assistant principal at Reed Intermediate School, introduced each student and a profile of each student, explaining why they were chosen for this honor.

The Student of The Month program was started by Newtown Rotary in 1992 for high school students to make the residents of Newtown aware of the many students who, Rotary members felt, were unsung heroes of the day. The program was later expanded to Newtown Middle School and then to Reed and St Rose schools.
