The winter 2006-07 season is coming to a close and, with it, a couple of collegiate careers.

Catherine Maher of Newtown – a graduate of St. Margaret’s-McTernan School in Waterbury (the alltime leading scorer in Waterbury history) – finished up her collegiate career at Trinity College as the Lady Bantams were stopped by Bowdoin College in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament.

Here is what she and other NHS alumni have been up to recently …

Catherine Maher (Trinity College women’s basketball) – The top-seeded Bowdoin College Polar Bears survived a scare from the eighth-seeded Trinity College Bantams in the NESCAC quarterfinals. The Polar Bears (24-1), winners by a 61-50 count, moved on to the semifinals to face the winner of Wesleyan and Williams while Trinity closed out its season at 12-12. Maher canned 12 points in the loss, shooting 2-of-5 from three-point land. The senior played and started all 24 games for the Bantams, finishing with 189 points (7.9 per game) along with a team-high 28 three-pointers, 43 rebounds, 59 assists, a block, and 21 steals. She finished her Trinity career with 871 points.

At the New England Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend at the University of New Hampshire, Smith was one leg of ECSU’s 400 medley relay team which broke a university record with a finish of 4:27.45 (a .44 improvement off the old record, set at the New Englands last year). The relay finished 10th in the event as ECSU finished 15th overall among 22 institutions which scored points. ECSU was 6-4-1 in dual meet competition this year.
