Disagrees With Operations Manager
To the Editor:
Newtown has been doing fine with our current form of government without adding another bureaucrat. Why do we need an operations manager? If we had a noticeable increase in population or a substantial change that unnecessarily burdened the first selectman, then I could understand looking into the possible need for this added position. We have had a fairly stable population for the last 25 years and no extraordinary changes that would require an operations manager.
I feel it would be just adding bureaucracy (and cost). It would also be a multi year contracted position that the voters wouldn’t have any control over with their vote.
If we want to change who is running day-to-day operations, that should be done by Charter revision, but I still do not think it is necessary as most other towns do not have this and are doing fine.
