The Newtown Torpedoes proudly brought home two team awards from the recent Yankee League championship meet – clearly distinguishing this young three-year-old team as a serious recreational contender in the area.

The Torpedoes came through to decisively earn third place overall (out of a total of eight participating teams). The strong and established Watertown team came in first, followed by Southbury in second.

Coach Mary Atkinson attributed this outstanding success to the hard work of all the Newtown Torpedo swimmers, since the third-place ranking was a direct result of multiple top 10 finishes at the championships

The second award went to the boys 8-and-under group, which became Division B Champions for their division. finishing a great season of personal growth and success. In addition five boys in this age group qualified for the All Star Tournament at Yale University next weekend – Conor Deveney, Luke Fiore, Sam Hoagland, Michael Hubbard and Kyle O’Connor.
