Democrats To Vote Tuesday

In Presidential Primary

By Jan Howard

Democrats will go to the polls on Tuesday, March 2, to vote in the state Presidential Preference Primary.

Voting takes place from 6 am to 8 pm at polling places as follows: District 1, Newtown Middle School, Queen Street; District 2, Reed Intermediate School, Trades Lane; District 3-1, Head O’ Meadow School, Boggs Hill Road; and District 3-2, Middle Gate School, Cold Spring Road.

The registrars of voters have advised that voting at the Reed School and Head O’ Meadow will take place in the art rooms. Also, at Middle Gate, voters should enter the cafeteria by the side door near the handicapped parking area.

The registrars also request that parents have their children ride the buses whenever possible that day to reduce traffic congestion at all the schools.

Town Clerk Cindy Simon advises that only registered Democrats are eligible to vote in the primary. She noted that residents are able to register up to noon on Monday, March 1.

Absentee ballots may be picked up on Saturday from 9 am to noon at the Town Clerk’s Office in Edmond Town Hall. Ballots must be returned by the day of the primary.

Absentee ballots will be counted at Newtown Middle School gymnasium on Queen Street.

The names of the following candidates are on the ballot, though some have since withdrawn from the race: John Edwards of Raleigh, N.C.; Joe Lieberman of New Haven; Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr, of Leesburg, Va.; Dennis Kucinich of Cleveland, Ohio; Howard Dean of South Burlington, Vt.; John F. Kerry of Boston, Mass.; Wesley Clark of Little Rock, Ark.; and Al Sharpton of New York, N.Y.
