Israeli Photos In Argentina
Newtown photographers Rita Frost and Francis Caro recently returned from Buenos Aires where they exhibited ten of their award winning photographs of Israel at AMIA, the Jewish Community Center.
The husband and wife team was so moved by their experience visiting AMIA that they donated their work to the centerâs permanent collection of art.
Ten years ago, terrorists bombed the center and 85 people were killed. Now rebuilt, the center meets many needs of the community including providing medical attention to those in need, as well as counseling and cultural events. Saddened by the tragedy nearly 300 artists expressed their outrage by creating works of art, many of which now hang in the halls of the center.
âOne painting particularly stands out,â said Ms Frost. âIt artistically incorporates all of the names of those who were lost. We are honored to exhibit and be a part of their permanent collection.
Ms Frost was a tour conductor for American government employees 30 years ago. She wanted to return for the Argentine people, she says, are very special, very warm.
Rita Frost and Francis Caro specialize in taking images of European villages, antique doors, windows, food and architecture. The couple seeks shots that will intrigue them.
Their vivid images try to make viewers feel that they are with them. Their photographs have won 55 first prizes.
Ms Frost is a photographer and impressionist artist with a painting career of more than 30 years. She studied at Accademia Di Belle Arti in Florence and at San Francisco Art Institute. Her work was exhibited at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, in South America, Israel, and throughout New England.
She is a member of the Newtown-based poetry group Women Priming the Pump. The ten members meet weekly to hone their writing skills.
Ms Frost and Mr Caro had known each other years ago, but re-met in 1993. Mr Caro proposed to Ms Frost while on a trip in France, where his family resides, and her focus changed to photography. Since then the couple has specialized in scenic views of Europe and Israel.
Mr Caro was the owner and director of the former Frank Caro Gallery, a gallery on 57th Street in Manhattan. A lifelong interest, photography became his profession after he and Ms Frost rekindled their relationship.
Last year their âpoetic photographs,â a series of works that were created in Roma and inspired Ms Frost to write a poem about the coupleâs trip,â were presented at Ridgefield Library and Woodbury Public Library. Their work is regularly presented in this area.
The photographers are currently presenting a collection of their photographs of Israel at The Jewish Community Center in Bridgeport.
A selection of their photographs from trips to Italy will be on view in April at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown. An opening is planned for Sunday, April 4. Details will be presented in upcoming issues of The Newtown Bee.
