Order Daffodils
By March 5
DANBURY â The American Cancer Society is asking Newtown residents to lend their support by either volunteering during Daffodil Days, the week of March 22, or by purchasing bouquets.
Most people know someone who has been affected by cancer. Approximately 1.3 million people this year will be diagnosed in this country; approximately 17,000 in the state of Connecticut. In the United States one out of every four deaths is from cancer.Â
The annual Newtown Daffodil Days campaign will help to raise awareness and to support American Cancer Society research as well as local educational programs and support services. These include âLook Good, Feel Better,â a program that teaches women how to deal with the physical effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments; âReach to Recoveryâ and âMan to Man,â two separate peer support programs that pair recently diagnosed breast and prostate cancer patients with survivors of the same cancers; and âRoad to Recovery,â a service that gives patients rides to and from life-saving treatments. Donations also help to maintain the American Cancer Societyâs toll-free, 24-hour cancer information line (800-ACS-2345) and its website, www.cancer.org.
Bouquets of ten daffodils are available for a donation of $7; Gifts of Hope, a double bouquet delivered anonymously to cancer patients, are available for $20. Orders should be placed before March 5. To volunteer with Daffodil Days, call the local American Cancer Society at 203-563-0740 (press 3).
