Sunday Slo-Pitch

The Newtown Men’s Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League is looking for new teams and new players for the 2004 season - which starts in just a few months. Anyone interested can call Tom Egan at 426-5136.

Babe Ruth Softball Registrations, Evaluations, Clinics

The Newtown Babe Ruth Softball League is in its final days for late registrations for the 2004 season (open to girls ages 6 to 16). Forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Department (final cutoff is March 1). Player evaluations will be held on Sunday, February 29, from 12:30 to 4:30 pm, at the Newtown Middle School (only registered players moving up from Student Division or first-year players in any division are required to attend). Time slots will be 12:30 to 1:30 for U10 players with last names A-M; 2 to 3 pm for U10 players with last names N-Z; 3:30 to 4:30 pm for U12 and U14 players. Pitching clinics will be held Fridays from February 27 through March 19 (the first will be at Read Intermediate and the others at St. Rose). These are free clinics, with Student and U10 Division players welcome from 6 to 7:20 pm and U12 and U14 players welcome from 7:30 to 9 pm. All girls attending must bring an indoor ‘softie’ softball and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will catch for them. Youth Lacrosse Coaches Sought

The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association is searching for coaches (head and assistant) for the spring season. A head coach is needed at the Boys 7th/8th ‘B’ level and assistants are needed at the Boys 7th/8th and 5th/6th ‘B’ level. Free Indoor Soccer Clinics

The Newtown Soccer Club is offering free indoor winter skills training clinics to registered players in ‘E’ and ‘F’ divisions. Brian Neumeyer, Newtown High School boys soccer coach and Newtown Soccer Club Coaching/Training Director, will oversee the clinics. He will be assisted by members of the high school soccer teams. Players must wear indoor shoes or sneakers as well as shin guards. Players must also bring a soccer ball and water bottle. No cleats will be allowed to be worn in the gym. All training will be held in the gym at Hawley School from 4 to 5 pm on the following Mondays – Session #2: Boys will meet on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Any scheduling changes will be noted on the web at www.newtownsoccerclub.org.

 

Lacrosse Officials Needed

Blue Devils U16 Softball

Soccer Development Program

AC Caldo, an advanced soccer development and training program in Northwestern Connecticut, is seeking U17 boys for its spring 2004 premier qualifying team sponsored by The Middlebury Soccer Association. The team will be coached by Joe Mancini of Soccer Extreme. Cost for winter and spring training, spring league, uniform and tournament play will be $469.
