The Greatest Love Story

Many in our society have a sincere concern over Mel Gibson’s movie, The Passion of Christ, that it will generate a feeling of hate. This idea has no basis in genuine Christianity. When Jesus the Messiah was crucified on the Roman cross as a sacrificial lamb as prophesied by Isaiah 63:3; Psalm 22, and Isaiah 53:7, it was done out of love for every sinner who ever walked on earth. God’s love for the human race was so overwhelming that the only sacrifice that would satisfy the holiness of God was for Him to come and die for us sinners.

This historical event is the greatest love story that was ever told. Jesus the Messiah willingly made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form He obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. Self-emptying and self-sacrifice, obedience to God’s will, and love to sinful men, even unto death of the cross. He was made in the likeness of men, so we could be conformed into the likeness of God.

Self-effacement and self-sacrifice that God’s will might be done and that man might be saved, this was the loving will of Jesus the Messiah and our loving heavenly Father. The whole life of Jesus the Messiah was to please God the Father and to bless men. This was truly the greatest love story every recorded in history. God’s infinite love for sinful men and He became the lamb of God that took away the sins of the world. This is what Mel Gibson’s movie is all about.
