William Girard

William “Bud” Girard, 82, of Newtown, died February 20 in Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Bridgeport, July 14, 1921, a son of the late Oswald and Anna (Wallace) Girard, who were residents of Huntington.

As a retired Connecticut State Trooper, Mr Girard spent his early leisure time tending his vegetable garden in Monroe, indulging in his passion for vintage cars, and perfecting his recipe for Chicken Cacciatore.

Recently, he was the Gervais Bros and Hurd Construction softball team’s greatest fan, cheering his son Billy and his teammates to many championships.

A resident of Ashlar of Newtown for the past five years, he was well known there for his dry sense of humor.

Bill was the proud father of William K. Girard and his wife Carol, Lynn Gervais and her husband Bruce, Sheila Gervais and her former husband Gary, all of Newtown, and of Robert Girard and his fiancée of Monroe. He is also survived by a brother, Oswald Girard of Destin, Fla.; and his seven grandchildren: Trina Johnson of Glastonbury, Matthew Girard of Westport, Mass., Kimberly Zeno and Erin Tani, both of Southbury, Brooke Gervais, Jacqueline Girard, and Robert Girard, Jr, all of Newtown; and eight great-grandchildren. William was predeceased by a sister, Jean “Sis” Horvath.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 344, Newtown CT 06470.

Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
