Dwight W.      Carlson

Retired Sergeant With

Connecticut State Police

Dwight W. Carlson, 80 husband of Anne (Bazarian) Carlson of Newtown, died February 17 at the New Milford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

He was born in Danbury on June 17, 1926, a son of Henry G. and Esther (Fountaine) Carlson. Mr Carlson was a lifelong resident of Newtown and graduated from Newtown High School. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 with the 42nd Constabulary Squadron with the rank of master sergeant and then was called to serve again during the Berlin Crisis with the 475th Engineering Corps.

Mr Carlson was a trooper for many years for the Connecticut State Police. He was in charge of the fleet of state police vehicles for the entire State of Connecticut. He retired with the rank of sergeant in the 1980s.

He was also a professional photographer for many years. Mr Carlson was the first president of the Newtown Jaycees. During his younger years, he built and raced his own racecars.

In addition to his wife, two sons, Dwight W. Carlson II of Torrington and Lance A. Carlson of Clermont, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Thomas, Alyssa, Steven, Danielle, and Lance Austin Carlson, survive him. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry G. Carlson, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 2, in the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
