To the Editor: www.fcgives.org and make your donation to help local families by selecting Newtown Salvation Army as your nonprofit organization on Thursday, March 9. Information is also available on the town's website, newtown-ct.gov, on Newtown Social Services page.  We would appreciate your support in this effort.

The Newtown Salvation Army will, for the first time, participate in the Fairfield County Giving Day. Fairfield County's Giving Day is a 24-hour online fundraising event. Last year's day of giving resulted in $1,246,964 donated by 11,000+ individuals for 410 nonprofits. Giving Day inspires and empowers our region to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofit organizations in just 24 hours through online donations. Funds raised through Giving Day 2017 will support the emergency assistance programming we offer through the Newtown Salvation Service Unit and Newtown Social Services.  Each year, families in Newtown benefit from this programming, which includes food, clothing, back-to-school assistance for school-aged children, and rent and utility assistance.
