Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue (NUSAR) is planning its first annual open house on Saturday, April 27. The event will run from 11 am to 3 pm, at NUSAR’s station, 28 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

NUSAR is a professionally trained all volunteer dive rescue team. Founded in 1989, it provides year-round services for water-based rescues and recoveries in Newtown and the surrounding communities in western Connecticut.

The event will offer the public an opportunity to meet team members, and learn about equipment and the team’s capabilities. There will be multiple demonstrations regarding capabilities for both rescue and recovery. Demonstrations will include video presentations, tours of NUSAR’s vehicles and vessels, and the opportunity to speak to a diver underwater through the team’s communications system.

There will also be a food truck on-site for those who are hungry and information packets regarding water-based safety. The Resources in Search and Rescue K9 team and several local fire departments are also planning to be on-site.

Thanks to generous donations, there will be a silent auction with all proceeds going in support of the team. NUSAR-based apparel including hats and shirts will be available on-site for purchase.
