Larceny Charge

Police report they were called to Newtown Convenience Store at 22 Church Hill Road about 4 pm March 1 in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident.

When they arrived police found two youths who were being detained by store personnel. An investigation resulted in Jonathan Mattarolo, 16, of 73 Castle Hill Road being charged with sixth-degree larceny after police found store merchandise in his possession, police said. The other youth, who is under 16, was not charged, police said.

Police released Mattarolo for a March 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Roaming Dog

Police report they served a warrant against Abbi Seley, 32, of 17 Papoose Hill Road March 2 on charges of allowing a dog to roam, and failure to plead or pay a fine.

Police said they received a court warrant on the charges after Seley had not responded to a past charge of allowing a dog to roam.

Police released Seley for a March 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DWI Charge

Police said they saw motorist David J. Wheeler, 52, of Redding drive a through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Queen Street about 2:50 pm March 2. Police said they stopped Wheeler and gave him field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police charged him with driving while intoxicated and failure to obey a traffic control signal. After processing, police released him on bond for a March 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Ford Rollover

Police report motorist Matthew Beres, 16, of 15 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus northbound on Mile Hill Road South about 60 miles per hour about 10:45 am March 4 when he passed another northbound vehicle and then swerved to avoid striking an animal, but lost control of the car and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its roof. There were no injuries. Police issued Beres an infraction ticket on charges of improper passing and making a restricted turn.

Main Street Rear-Ender

Motorist John A. Dicesare, Jr, 56, of New Milford, was driving southbound on Main Street March 3 when he came to a stop for traffic and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Dawn M. Huges, 32, of Brookfield. There were no injuries. Police issued Huges a written warning for following too closely.

I-84 DWI

State police report they observed motorist German Hernandez, 36, of Mt Kisco, NY, driving erratically on eastbound Interstate-84 near Exit 11 about 12:10 am March 4.

State police said they stopped Hernandez and performed field sobriety tests, which he failed. State police charged Hernandez with driving while intoxicated. State police released him on a $500 bond for a March 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Exit 9 Crash

 State police report that while traveling eastbound on I-84 west of Exit 9, motorist Evo Cruz, 62, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1993 Ford Mustang, saw that a vehicle had cut in front of him. Cruz started to pass the vehicle, but lost control of the Ford and hit an embankment, resulting in minor injuries, state police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Cruz to Danbury Hospital to be checked out. The crash is under investigation.

Hawleyville Accident

Motorist Lisa G. Buccino, 38, of 15 Saw Mill Road, who was driving a 1994 Dodge Caravan minivan, stopped at the end of eastbound Interstate-84’s Exit 9 off-ramp about 11:15 am March 3, state police said.

Motorist Kristin Lukovits, 20, of New Milford, who was driving a 1990 Volkswagen Golf, was behind the Dodge, state police said.

Lukovits then looked down at some written directions and rolled into the back end of the Dodge, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Lukovits performed an unsafe movement.

Loose Lumber

State police said motorist Michael C. Ouadland, 56, of Sherman, who was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck, was headed westbound on I-84 near Exit 9 about 12:50 pm March 1 when a piece of wood fell off a westbound tractor-trailer truck just ahead of him driven by Douglas J. Karnowski, 49, of Newport, RI.

The falling wood struck the Toyota on the driver’s side door, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Karnowski failed to secure his load.

  

Warrant

Police report they served a warrant March 3 against Tracy Cable, 36, of 41 Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court and breach of peace. Police said they released Cable on bond for a March 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main MVA

Police report motorist Rose T. McCarthy, 76, of Bridgeport, who was traveling northbound on South Main Street near Borough Lane about noon March 7, struck construction worker Jacob Yeager, 17, of Amsterdam, NY, who was working on a utility repair project.

Police said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Mr Yeager to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for a broken ankle and then released.

Police said the accident is under investigation.

Five Charges

Police said they observed motorist Denise Pizzi, 45, of Brewster, NY, cross the road’s center line on Route 6 about 5 pm March 8.

Police said they stopped the vehicle she was driving, did sobriety testing and found her to be intoxicated. Police said she became belligerent and refused to cooperate, resisted arrest and then kicked out the rear window of the police car where she had been placed.

Police charged Ms Pizzi with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive to the right, interfering with police, third-degree criminal mischief, and refusal to be fingerprinted.

Police kept Ms Pizzi in the police station lockup overnight on bond for a March 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
