Auditions For ‘Woods’ At Wilton Playhouse

WILTON — Wilton Playshop will host auditions for Joe DiPietro’s Over the River and Through the Woods, to be directed by Tom Rushen, on Sunday and Monday, March 12-13. The auditions will begin at 7 pm each night.

Performances will be weekends, May 5-20, at Wilton Playshop’s theater, 15 Lover’s Lane.

Every Sunday, Nick Cristano heads to Hoboken for dinner with his two sets of Italian-American grandparents. This Sunday, however, he brings surprising news… his company is promoting him, and he is about to move across the country to Seattle.

With the days of their weekly feasts numbered, the grandparents plot and scheme to figure out the best way to keep Nick in the neighborhood.

There are roles for three men and three women: Nick Cristano, in his 30s, is a marketing executive, hwo is alternately embarrassed, perplexed, mesmerized and nostalgic toward his grandparents;

Frank Gianelli, 80, Nick’s maternal grandfather, is on the belligerent side, but still very affectionate, plays the mandolin, and is a great storyteller;

Aida Gianelli, Frank’s wife, 70s, is down to earth and an Einstein in the kitchen;

Nunzio Cristano, Nick’s paternal grandfather, also in his 70s, is loud, enthusiastic, and full of life;

Emma Cristano, Nunzio’s wife, in her 70s,  just as loud and determined as her husband, is occasionally inappropriate, but well-meaning; and

Caitlin O’Hare, in her 20s, is attractive, charming, a vegetarian, a nurse by trade, and may be a way to keep Nicky close by.
