Occupation: I'm an educator and a play facilitator. I'm currently applying for nonprofit status to open a Forest Preschool, where kids are outside 80 percent of the day.

Family: I've been married to Paul DeLuca since 2010, but we've been together for 18 years. I have two boys. Blayne is 28 years old, and Devin is 24.

Pets: Currently we're down to the minimum we've ever had. We have one dog, Bella, a mixed brindle. She's a really good dog, about 7 years old. We are down to one cat now, Bootsy. And we have four chickens.

How long have you lived here? I've lived here 24 years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to kayak a lot, and horseback ride. I'm learning natural horsemanship from Rebecca Howard Hathaway on Hattertown Road. I hike, and I garden. Really, I love to do anything outdoors. I started snowshoeing last winter, but this winter has been disappointing. I water ski, and I downhill ski, too.

Do you have a favorite hiking place? I love Al's Trail. I usually start at the boat launch and I'll hike for about two hours at a time.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? My dad was a pilot, so we went a lot of places. We went to Switzerland when I was about 10 or 12 years old, and I'd like to do back there to ski. That was my favorite.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The people and the sense of community. People are not typical New Englanders here. People are accepting of different ideas and very friendly.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? There are so many people I could say - teachers, my parents, my husband. There are so many influences that have changed my life, from decade to decade.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would you choose? Myself, 20 years ago. I would like to sit myself down and talk. I'd let myself know that I am capable of doing more.

This week's Snapshot profile is Nancy Schutts.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Repurposing used items from tag sales or roadsides. It's hard to drive by something wonderful at the side of the road.
