Motorist Charged In School Bus Accident

Following their investigation into a February 24 collision between an auto and a school bus on South Main Street, near Cold Spring Road, police issued the auto’s driver an infraction ticket for following too closely.

In that accident, town school bus driver Gary Wheeler, 52, was stopped on northbound South Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn onto Cold Spring Road at about 11:40 am, when northbound motorist Kerstin Allen, 47, of 45 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, drove into the rear end of the bus. The full-size bus did not carry any passengers.

Allen, who reported chest pain, was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be checked. Wheeler reported back and neck discomfort, but was not transported.

After concluding their investigation of the crash, police issued Allen the infraction ticket.
