BOYS 8TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

NEWTOWN 76, WESTON 58: Ronnie Shimko scored 20 points, scorching the nets on six three-point baskets, to lead Newtown to the win. Andrew Fiscella added 19 points and 10 rebounds while John Oliver had seven rebounds and Dave Anderson chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. Ross Coates played solid defense, blocking several shots. For Newtown, it was their ninth win in the final 11 games.

GIRLS 7TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

NEWTOWN 38, NEW CANAAN 21: Newtown overpower New Canaan as Katie O’Connor scored eight points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Siobhan Cooper had eight points and nine rebounds to also lead the offense. Meghan Kelley, Megan LaFlamme, and Ashley Larocque tossed in six points each. Courtney Brunton’s nine rebounds plus strong defensive efforts from Emily Nezvesky and Jessica Budnick were key ingredients in the win.

NEWTOWN 43, MONROE 39: In a season-ending clash between two top teams, Newtown edged Monroe as Megan LaFlamme poured in 16 points – including the game-winning basket. Meghan Kelly tossed in eight points while Jackie Ercole and Ashley Larocque combined for 10 points. Courtney Brunton (3), Siobhan Cooper (3), and Amie Walston (1) also contributed points to the effort and were strong off the boards to boot. Christie Caruso led the defense.

BOYS 6TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

NEWTOWN 57, SOUTHBURY 53: Drew Adamek canned 12 points and dished off four assists as Newtown slipped by Southbury. Tommy Wilson added nine points while Brian Shimko had eight points and Chris Giorno tossed in a pair of key baskets in the second half. Alex Caruso led the defense as Josh Tenenbaum pulled down nine rebounds.

NEWTOWN 48, BROOKFIELD 25: Drew Harmata scored 13 points as Newtown ran past Brookfield. Drew Adamek and Brian Shimko added seven points apiece while Steohen Neylon and Jack Capito each contributed six points. Mark Ingerman led the defense and had four assists to go with nine rebounds.

FAIRFIELD 49, NEWTOWN 43: Drew Harmata recorded his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the effort came in a loss to Fairfield. Mark Ingerman turned in his fifth double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Tommy Wilson also led the offense.

BOYS 5TH GRADE

 

WESTON 46, NEWTOWN 23: Ryan McGrath scored 10 points and Kevin Regan chipped in with four in a loss to Weston. Tad Pierson, Michael Tibbetts, Aron Fay, Regan and McGrath were all strong off the boards while Michaek Klein had a solid game at the point.

RIDGEFIELD 50, NEWTOWN 41: Ryan McGrath scored 12 points and was 4-for-4 from the line, but Newtown fell in a battle with Ridgefield. Kevin Regan tossed in 10 points while Joey DeVellis and Michael Tibbetts combined for 11 points. Tad Pierson, Regan, Tibbetts and McGrath helped control the boards while DeVellis was strong at the point.

NEWTOWN 37, WILTON 29: Ryan McGrath notched another double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Joey Bowen (eight points), Kevin Regan (seven points), Michael Klein (six points) and Tad Pierson (four points) all contributed to the offense. Tucker Kass was the defensive star, making six steals. Cody Shpunt was strong off the glass and Jack Quinn played well at the point.

NEWTOWN 51, FAIRFIELD 33: Ryan McGrath scored 14 points and Michael Klein canned eight to lift Newtown past Fairfield. Kevin Regan chipped in with six points while Jack Quinn added five. Cody Shpunt, Joey Bowen, Tucker Kass and Michael Kennedy all combined for 16 points to complete the scoring. Quinn and Kass were outstanding on defense, combining for seven steals as Newtown improved its league record to 25-7.
