Shining Stars … Mid Fairfield Girls Win Championship

The Mid Fairfield Connecticut Stars U-14 Tier II girls’ hockey team went 3-0-1 to win the Connecticut Hockey Conference state championship in Shelton this past weekend. After tying New Canaan 1-1, the Stars won three straight, 1-0 over the Connecticut Polar Bears, 2-0 over Darien and 4-2 over the Polar Bears in the championship game to advance to regional play. Newtown Middle School eighth-graders Molly Elliot and Katie Guaragno were key contributors in helping the Stars advance to the New England Regional Tournament which will be held in mid March against teams from Vermont, Maine and Rhode Island at Connecticut’s Northford Ice Pavilion. Katie Guaragno’s younger sister Anna Guaragno, a seventh-grader at Newtown Middle School, will also participate in Regional play as a member of the U-12-Tier II Mid-Fairfield Connecticut Stars who finished runner-up to the Connecticut Northern Lights in the state championships.
