Stephen J. Pekar, 98, of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died February 28 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. He was born in Bridgeport, December 9, 1910, a son of John M. and Katrina âKatieâ (Mindek) Pekar. Mr Pekar was the husband of the late Katherine âKayâ (Sabol) Pekar.
Before retirement, he was a carpenter for Carpenterâs Union Local #210. During World War II, Mr Pekar was a ship fitter at the Boston Navel Ship Yard. A resident of Sandy Hook for more than 60 years, he was a communicant at St Rose of Lima Church.
Survivors include a son, William Pekar and his wife, Pat, of Sandy Hook; a daughter, Kathleen P. Dudley of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Beatrice Lattanzi and Margaret Taylor, both of Stratford; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 4. Interment followed in St Rose Cemetery.
