The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library is sponsoring a pop-up sale of books, jigsaw puzzles, and games for all ages that will offer “A Great Escape!” from the mid-winter doldrums.

Located on the second floor of C.H. Booth Library, the sale will run through March 31, during library hours.

This month’s sale offers an easy, affordable way to escape into the magic of books, whatever one’s interests might be — from romance, mystery, fantasy, and science fiction to art, nature, animals, gardening, cooking, home improvement, and much more.

According to Friends volunteer Jane Gatenby, who oversees all of the fiction, “We’ll have a great variety of fiction, including bestselling titles by popular authors such as David Baldacci, Catherine Coulter, John Grisham, James Patterson, J.D. Robb, Clive Cussler, Daniel Silva, Stephen King, and Jodi Picoult and more.”

Kathleen Belmont, who coordinates the gardening category for the Friends, says shoppers can also escape to thoughts of springtime thanks to books that help plan and grow dream gardens.

“Our offerings include how-to guides for designing perennial and annual flower beds and vegetable gardens, as well as specialty books on deer-proofing, indoor edible gardens, seeds, and windowsill plants,” Belmont mentioned. “Check out The Drunken Botanist — with plants that create great drinks — and Wicked Plants that can kill! I’m especially obsessed with these last two books.”

Cooking and baking can be comforting escapes from the everyday and the Friends will be offering many books by popular, contemporary cookbook authors from the Food Network including Ina Garten and Giada De Laurentiis, as well as books on outdoor grilling and international cuisine.

Librarian and Friends volunteer Fran Ashbolt noted that there will also be “craft books to lose yourself in on crochet, knitting, quilt making, jewelry making, and a few on soap making, candles, and bird boxes. There are also a few craft kits especially for cross stitch and calligraphy.”

According to Book Sale Chair Denise Kaiser, a curated selection of the most popular children’s fiction and series, board and picture books, “from beloved classics like Winnie the Pooh and the Narnia series and old-fashioned fairy tales to Captain Underpants, Harry Potter, the Magic Tree House series, and Dr Seuss will be available. There are books for children and young adults at every reading level.”

Looking for more? The Little Book Store to the left of the main circulation desk, also stocked and organized by the Friends, will continue to offer a wide variety of quality books and media for adults and children.

The Friends and the library thank visitors in advance for adhering to the current public health guidelines: wearing a face mask, maintaining social distancing, and using hand sanitizer while shopping. Sanitizing stations are available throughout the library— including one atop the bookcase holding many of the Friends book sale items — to keep the library and library grounds a safe place for the community.

For an added measure of safety, there are two no-contact payment options for the pop-up sale and the Little Book Store. Shoppers can leave cash or a check in the secure cash boxes on site, or they can go to boothbooksale.org to pay by credit card or through PayPal.

C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, is currently open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am-7 pm, and Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am-4 pm. Check the library’s website, chboothlibrary.org, or call 203-426-4533 to confirm hours.
