Girls 6th

Ridgefield St Mary’s 31, Newtown 16 – Mary Joe Rossi had 11 rebounds to go along with a basket and a free throw. Danielle Shine scored 5 points and had 5 rebounds, Kerry Scallon scored 2 baskets. Kristie VosWinkel and Amanda Crowell also scored. Amanda Cirella contributed 2 rebounds and 2 blocks, and Jenny Indelicato and Tess Murray played well.

Norwalk 42, Newtown 19 – Kristie VosWinkel led Newtown with 5 points and Kerry Scallon, Jessi Principi, and Danielle Shine had 4 each. Mary Joe Rossi had 5 steals and Shine grabbed 8 rebounds. Jessie Principi had 2 baskets, Hope McMorran had 6 rebounds and Jenny Indelicato added 2 steals.

Newtown 42, Fairfield 5 – The Newtown Bounce won the first round of the season tournament decisively behind Amanda Crowell, who dropped in 12 points and had 6 rebounds. Kristie VosWinkel scored 4 baskets and added a free throw. Tess Murray contributed 4 points and 5 rebounds, Hope McMorran led in assists with 3, and Mary Joe Rossi, Amanda Cirella, and Kerry Scallon each had 4 steals. Jessie Principi played a fast-paced game and contributed 3 points.

 

Boys 6th

Newtown 45, Fairfield Stags 23 – Matt Hoyt had 11 points and Mike Davis added 9 in the regular season finale for the locals. Conner Gallagher had 3 assists, Nick Cagganello had 5 rebounds and Matt Mossbarger added 5 steals to lead Newtown. Newtown was scheduled to begin FCBL playoffs against Southbury this week.

Boys 8th

Bridgeport-Trumbull Gardens 68, Newtown 51 – David Lucia’s 13 points and 6 rebounds kept Newtown close until midway through the third quarter when Bridgeport went on a scoring run to finish the period leading by 9 points. Bridgeport secured the win by outscoring Newtown 21-13 in the final period. Brendan DeAngelis had 12 points and Josh Barrett dished out 6 assists in the road loss.

Stamford 53, Newtown 48 – Newtown closed out its regular season on the road against division leading Stamford. The second half saw several lead changes as upset-minded Newtown hung tough against a talented Stamford squad. In what appeared to be a momentum swing late in the game, Newtown’s Justin Brophy picked up a deflected ball at midcourt and delivered a no-look pass to Brendan DeAnglis for a layup. Newtown went on to take a 48-47 lead with 1:14 to play in the fourth quarter when Stamford took a timeout. A quick Stamford score and a successful defensive stop on Newtown’s next possession put the home team in control of the game during the final minute. David Lucia had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots. DeAngelis added 9 points and Dan Gallegher contributed 7 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

 

Junior Boys

Nets 58, Regulators 50 – Leading the Nets offensively were Austin Bonadici with 14 points, 6 assists and 2 steals; Mason West added 11 points and Phil Reynolds popped in 10 points. Austin Puleri and Brendan Callery both grabbed 7 rebounds. The team played strong together. Jack Champagne dropped in 15 points for the Regulators. Tyler Gidney (6 assists), Greg Frattarolli (10 steals), and Dan Bethke (6 rebounds) played well defensively.

Avalanche 36, Statesmen 33 – Avalanche came back from a 14-point deficit to win a nail biter, led by Sean Burson with 19 points. Leading the team defensively were Eric Sutton (2 assists), Michael Allwein (3 steals), and Jimmy Russo (9 rebounds). Cole Baldino of the Statesmen popped in 8 points. Peter Kerns with 8 rebounds and Brian Kruger led the team defensively.

Maulers 41, Nuggets 34 – Justin Devillis dropped in 17 points, Kory Kling had 5 assists and a 3-point buzzer beater. Rob Uhde blocked 12 shots. Scott Schmidt led the Nuggets 10 points. Mike Lengel and Devin DiNocola combined for 12 points and Max Lopez had 6 assists. Kyle Haggerman and Sean Decker played great defense.

Tar Heels 53, Vipers 46 (Overtime) – Mike Darbert led the Tar Heels with 11 points and Stephen Rahr had 3 assists. Pat Riccardi with 5 steals and Don Morrissey with 10 rebounds led the team defensively. Dan Poetl drove in 14 points. Great defense by Jeff Grasso and Richard Sandler. The team as a whole had a good floor game for the Vipers.

Nighthawks 59, Wildcats 29– Michael Scharfenberg with 14 points, Greg Horne with 8 points, and Kaleb Rowe with 6 points, and John Hull with 5 assists led the Nighthawks offensively. Leading the team defensively were Pat Sullivan, Ryan Palmer, Ryan Lemay, and Brandon Marks. Mario Pizighelli, Chris Otero, and Shaun Mangold were strong on the boards. Sam Langdon and Rich Greenwood played great defense.

Huskies 61, Pride 54 –Dom Fedak had 17 points, Reid Schmidt 13, and Dillon Kelly 11. John Corsi led the team defensively. Strong offense and defense played by the whole team. Collin Cooper led the Pride offensively with 18 points. Chad Magoulas (8 rebounds), Wyatt Dupuy (6 assists), and Meyer (4 steals) led the team defensively.

Bears 42, Gunners 36 – Phillips, Carey, and Roche combined for 37 points. Mike Greenwood (4 assists), Keenan Mulligan (4 steals), and Kyle Harrington (8 rebounds) led the Bears defensively. Leading the Gunners offensively were Fiore with 10 points and 5 assists and Sayegh added 8 points. Leading the team defensively were Hutchison with 4 steals and Volkers with 4 rebounds.

Junior Girls

Da Bears 43, Mercury 23 – Molly Mahony popped in 17 points. Luiza Tollkucci with 4 steals and Katie Fossum with 9 rebounds, and Kyra Middeleer played well defensively. Alexa Powell dropped in 12 points and Jane Sclafani added 3 points. Shradha Sahani with 6 rebounds, Katherine Lotrecciano, Kristen Grabowski, and Heather Leone anchored the “D.”

Knicks 29, Huskies 15 – Well balanced attack led by Lia Tassinari with a double-double and 11 points, and Carly Gehrman with an outstanding defensive effort. Tassinari and Kelly Gaston combined for 11 rebounds. Lexi Black with 4 points and Liz Eiseman and Michaela Beaudry with 3 points each led the Huskies offensively. Leading the team defensively were Katie MacManus and Kristy Engler.

The Hawks 28, Suns 25 – Molly Emmerthal and Lydia Beiter led the Hawks with 6 points each. Caitlyn Gibney and Olivia Phenix played awesome defense. Allison Monaco popped in 8 points and Emily Nacewicz added 5 points for the Suns. Tressa Scott with 6 steals and Rachel Wiberg with 7 rebounds were the defensive leaders.

Rebels 41, Liberty 33 – Kaitlyn Vos Winkel and Christina Caporale each popped in 10 points. Jessica Gibbons (4 assists), Caitlyn Dowling (6 steals), and Kiersten Lynch (5 rebounds) led the Rebels defensively. Courtney Escoda and Emma Herring drove in 8 points each. Season ended with a tough battle. The final score does not indicate how close the game was.

 

Intermediate Girls (5th & 6th)

Wolves 28, Bulldogs, 12 – Siena Cicarelli dropped in 12 points, and Emily Turco and Jenna Hansen highlighted the offense. Julia Frattaroli grabbed 5 rebounds; strong defense from Lilly Fully for the Wolves. Emily Grimes popped in 9 points for the Bulldogs. Great floor play by Emma Lloyd and Meghan Logan.

Bluefish 23, Court Jesters 22 – Emily Davis and Emily Maher each popped in 8 points, with assists from Lyndsey Jagoe. Aimee Alexander, Shana Evanko, and Michela Nowacki led the Blue Fish defensively. Megan Brophy popped in 6 points, with 3 assists by Madeline Fletcher. Mary Kate Halmose led the Court Jesters defensively.

Ghostbusters 17, Nighthawks 15 – Anna Northrup popped in 13 points, with 7 assists by Dale Shearin. The Ghostbusters played tough defense, passing and assisting their teammates throughout the game. Amanda Martinez and Sarah Craig worked the defense. Allie Brazo canned 8 points for the Nighthawks, with assists from Shaina Stump. Rebecca Pearson and Marissa Leone led the defense. Awesome defense and hustle by everyone. A tough-fought game.

Intermediate Boys (6th)

Nighthawks 31, Mavericks 24 – Drew Tarantino drove in 14 points and Chris Carroll popped in 8 points. Leading the Nighthawks defensively were Nate Steinebrey and Mike Dinalli. Otto Kerler dropped in 8 points and Nick Strokis popped in 4. Matt Baldino (5 assists), Jack Bennedict (6 steals), and Marc Hernandez (11 rebounds) led the Mavericks defensively. Wesley Morlock and Joe Calbo led a second half comeback.

Huskies 30, The Beast 14 – Angel Santos canned 11 points. Dan Winn played great defense for the Huskies and grabbed 2 steals. Kalra popped in 6 points. Leading the Beast defensively were Schwartz and Swenson.

Hawks 31, Celtics 23 — Matt Lindell dropped in 12 points, Pat Rowley had 5 assists. Nick Norberg grabbed 8 rebounds and Alex Romeo had 3 steals for the Hawks. Virgil Procaccini played an all-around great game. Ryan Errico popped in 6 points with 4 assists from Matt Wood. Ben Payne grabbed 10 rebounds and Brendon Peterson, 4 steals for the Celtics.

Free Agents 50, Suns 45 (4 Overtimes) – Justin Adsitt popped in 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Chase Wurtz had 6 assists for Free Agents. A game well-played by all, offensively and defensively. Riley Cross and Shay Demarche popped in 19 points, Tim Kelley with 6 assists for the Suns. Tom Floros and Matt Janco each had 6 steals and Patrick Pierce and Dan Cummings each grabbed 7 rebounds.

Intermediate Boys (5th)

Sonic Pumpkins 31, Wildcats 8 – Grasso and Sherman each drove in 10 points for the Sonic Pumpkins. Joey Santella and Christ Hartley led the team defensively. Dedgan Beauchemin and Forest Speed led the defense and played great on both ends. Matt Hess, Robby Schreiber, and Baxter Hanin also played well against an impressive, balanced Sonic Pumpkins team. Luke Rustici sunk 4 points, while Peter Manfredonia grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Twisters, 26 Celtics 18 – Matthews and Devillis combined for 14 points. David Matthews and Andrew Cragin combined for 13 points. Liam Decker (3 steals), Mark Dowling (3 assists), and Alex Klang (6 rebounds) played well defensively. Andre Pfifer was solid on the boards. Good team win for the Twisters. Street dropped in 9 points and Dunn popped in 6. Christian Hoffman (6 assists), Danny Romeo (4 steals), and Sean Kemsley (5 rebounds) played well defensively. All around solid defensive effort from the entire Celtics squad.

Celtics 31, Scorpions 19 – Eric Street and Will Swain led the way for the Celtics. Street dropped in 14 points. Tommy Rahr had 4 assists. Solid all around defense by the Celtics headlined by David Csordas (2 steals) and Andrew King. Brian Raab and Coltin Moroney each dropped in 7 points for the Scorpions. Leading the team defensively were Dave Corsi (3 assists), Nick Cirone (10 steals), and Joe Stromski (4 rebounds). The Scorpions played well offensively and defensively.

Rockets 38, Knicks 30 – Bobby Archiere and James Burdette combined for 26 points to power the Rockets to victory in the first round of the playoffs. Wiley Zahansky had 4 assists and Kustav Mitra grabbed 5 steals off the boards. Harry Dupuy dropped in 15 points and Bryce Decker added 6. Leading the team defensively were Nate Dowd (6 assists), Tommy Shaker (5 steals), and Tyler Lenox (5 rebounds). Harry Dupuy, Bryce Decker, and Tommy Shaker led the team effort right down to the wire.

Bulldogs 25, The Heat 20 – Leading the team offensively were Will Dalton with 12 points and Max Rucinski with 11 points. Jason Ferari grabbed 6 rebounds off the boards. The Bulldogs were down by three in the fourth quarter but outscored the Heat 9 to 1 to pull away with the victory. Daniel Collucci and Arnav Singh combined for 12 points. Leading the team defensively were Colin Reilly (4 assists), Charlie Huegi (5 steals), and Connor Lemay (6 rebounds).

 

Bantam Girls

Tigers 15, Devils 11 – The Tigers were led offensively by Haley Ryan and Chloe Amante, while defensively they were led by Clare Boyle and Alana Murray. The Devils were led offensively by Abby Kohler and Victoria Kirkman, while defensively they were led by Jillian Gibney and Amanda Albansi.

Eagles 15, No Names 11 – Jessica Shairer and Katie Reilly highlighted the offense, while Chrissy Moore and Margaret Elkins drove it in for the defense for the Eagles. Steph Carr and Katie Mossbarger led the No Names offensively, while Kayla Disibio and Maddy Bridges led the team defensively.

Hawks 24, Wildcats 12 – The Hawks were led offensively by Caitlyn Linden and Alexis Tucker, while defensively they were led by Sarah Bender and Alexis Badick. The Wildcats were led offensively by Emma Horne and Annie Hoffman, while defensively they were led by Amy Talbot and Rachel Williams.

Midget Boys

Lakers vs Wildcats – The Lakers were led offensively by Colin Villamana, Graham Dowd, and Devon Covert, while defensively they were led by Josh Harper, Nick Harper, and Oliver Wood. The Wildcats were led offensively by Christian Adam, Greg Trimarchi, and Sean Wallace, while defensively they were led by Rhett Saunders, Spencer Burden, and William Corbett.

Green Torpedos vs Hawks – The Green Torpedos were led offensively by Jack Bittman and Andrew Lee, while defensively they were led by Wesley Scriven, Peter Fagerholm, and Thomas Addessi. The Hawks were led offensively by Tommy Kitzmiller, Scott Bauer, and Mitchell Long, while defensively they were led by Owen Rahr and Doug Carriero.

Red Devils vs White Knights – The Red Devils were led offensively by Nicholas Weiland, John Finnegan, and William LeMay, while defensively they were led by James Hobar, Harry Eppers, and Charles Romano. The White Knights were led offensively by Austin Engler, Owen McInerney, and Ryann Escoda, while defensively they were led by Gregory Brissette, Michael Liberante, and Nate Jones.

Green Goo vs Yellow Sabers – The Green Goo were led offensively by Patrick Conte and Connor McNerney, while defensively they were led by Cameron Mitchell. The Yellow Sabers were led offensively by David Daria, Andrew DeLuca, and Dwyer Grimes, while defensively they were led by David Kohler, Joey Cistulli, and David Grossman.

Blue Devils vs Purple People Eaters – The Blue Devils were led offensively by Connery Mayer, Cole Demerjian, and Gavin Stubbs, while defensively they were led by Matt Frazzetta, Ryan Campbell, and Brian Montoya. The Purple People Eaters were led offensively by Connor Barrett, Jack Palermo and Adam Bergeron, while defensively they were led by Ian Klepacki, Robert Murray, and Matt Gerbo.

Celtics vs Goofy Goobers – The Celtics were led offensively by Jack Moulder, Austin Kasbarian, and Abir Singh, while defensively they were led by Nick Madej, Matthew Kretz, and Justin Woodard. The Goofy Goobers were led offensively by Mitchell Savoca, Kyle Roche, and McKinley Seaver, while defensively they were led by Thomas Stanczyk, Alex Street, and Quinlan Hart.

Fireballs vs Sharks – The Fireballs were led offensively by Ryan Williams, Brian Kerins, and Matthew Sadowski, while defensively they were led by Will Stenze, Ted Silverman, and Austin Smith. The Sharks were led offensively by Marc Carlson, Layton Harrell, and Steven Moccio, while defensively they were led by David Lawrence, Kyle Chernov, and Tyler Lacroce.

Orange Flames vs Panthers – The Orange Flames were led offensively by Adam Wolff, Liam Deakin, and Nicholas Lombardo, while defensively they were led by Taylor Koonz, Timothy Cervera and, Braeden Mathieson. The Panthers were led offensively by Justin Dunn, River Low, and Joshua Dunn, while defensively they were led by Ryan Mailloux, Bryce Griffin, and Jason Taweh.

Midget Girls

Orange Crush vs Blue Devils – The Orange Crush were led offensively by Bridget Walsh and Tegan, while defensively they were led by Kira Smith and Danielle Powell. The Blue Devils were led offensively by Cory Mangold and Allie Indelicato, while defensively they were led by Isabella Luciano and Kayla O’Sullivan.

Bumble Bees vs Huskies – The Bumble Bees were led offensively by Meghan Doyle and Jessica Maturo, while defensively they were led by Natalie Shaler and Megan Nahmias. The Huskies were led offensively by Chloe Kasak and Julia Doyle, while defensively they were led by Lindsey Tienken and Rachel Sherwood.

Wildcats vs Tigers – The Wildcats were led offensively by Karley Kreshpan and Megan Goyda, while defensively they were led by Julia Bagdonoff and Tori Chillington. The Tigers were led offensively by Hailey Conrad and Kendra Dunnigan, while defensively they were led by Emily Bell and Olivia Holman.

Red Devils vs Purple Parrots – The Red Devils were led offensively by Olivia Shaw and Erin Tressler, while defensively they were led by Abby Pearson. The Purple Parrots were led offensively by Sarah Houle and Tessa Leon-Gambella, while defensively they were led by Simone Afriyie and Rebecca Gavel.
