The Tractor Supply Company's store planned for 116 South Main Street (Route 25) will serve as a shopping place for the community's farmers, gardeners, livestock and pet owners, homeowners, and tradesmen, according to a statement from the company. Site development work has started at the property.

The store plans to hire 12 to 15 employees knowledgeable about pet care, livestock, and land use topics.

"We're not just building a store, we're building a team that understands the needs of the Newtown community," said District Manager Alan Morris.

"At Tractor Supply, we carry products that support the lifestyle our customers lead, the land they own, and the animals in their care, so whether you are someone who raises horses and pets, runs a hobby farm, or just enjoys the rural lifestyle, we'll be there to make sure you have all the tools you need," he said.

At the store, customers will be able to shop for a wide selection of products, including workwear and boots, tractor and trailer parts and accessories, lawn and garden supplies, sprinkler and irrigation parts, power tools, fencing, welding and pump supplies, riding mowers, and other items, according to the company. The Newtown store will carry a wide variety of food and supplies for pets, horses, and general livestock.

The Tractor Supply Company will support pet adoption initiatives, the 4-H Club, Future Farmers of America, fairs, and livestock shows.

Brian Gesell of Newtown will construct the 19,000-square-foot retail space. The building will have an adjacent fenced 15,000-square-foot display area.

The store's opening, which is planned for September, will start with a four-day grand opening celebration.

Founded in 1938, Tractor Supply Company operates 1,595 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states.
