Janet K. Brinkman, known by many as “Kit,” died Thursday, March 3, 2022, at her home in Newtown. Born in Mt Vernon, N.Y., on July 26, 1925, she was the daughter of Albert and Katherine Kennedy.

A graduate of Cornell University, her degree in food science and nutrition led to a career with Betty Crocker. In 1950 she married Albert Brinkman (“Brink”). They lived and worked in Japan from 1952 to 1955 and became parents of four children and grandparents of three.

While living in Newtown, Kit moved on to a second career in real estate. She had a great interest in fitness and was an avid tennis player. With her love of literature and appetite for learning, she actively participated in multiple book clubs. Additionally, she and her husband were enthusiastic travelers, experiencing numerous destinations around the globe. They were devoted members of The Newtown Congregational Church.

A loving sister, wife, mother, Nana, and friend, Kit was passionate about food, music, and theater. She was a founding member of Newtown Friends of Music. Kit and her husband were long-time attendees at Long Wharf Theater. An accomplished pianist, Kit continued to play the piano well into her 90s, including the creation of a personal CD that she shared with friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470, would be appreciated.
