Betty Presnell and son Michael have responded to the “Bee Crafty” challenge with a simple craft using cut-out sections of The Newtown Bee.

“I’d never done it before,” said Betty of the two glass plates they created utilizing newspaper clippings and Mod Podge paste, but she felt certain it is a craft easy enough for all ages to replicate.

Directions for making the decorative plates are as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Brush the back of a clean clear glass plate with Mod Podge and carefully place clippings on it.

2. Gently smooth out the printed items.

3. Brush a smooth, thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the clippings and then let the plate dry for at least 24 hours.

Do not put the finished plate in a dishwasher, only wash gently by hand, Betty said.

Because Mod Podge is not food safe, do not use it on any surface that will touch food.

Betty and Michael were both rewarded with handcrafted “bee” face masks for participating in the Bee Crafty challenge.

Make a craft from any portion of The Newtown Bee newspaper and submit a photo of your artwork, along with directions on making it, to eliza@thebee.com. Participants are eligible for a handcrafted “bee” face mask.
