Leonard Bernstein’s Daughter

To Introduce ‘West Side Story’

FAIRFIELD — West Side Story, the Oscar-winning retelling of Romeo and Juliet amid gangs in New York, will be screened on Sunday, March 26, at 3 pm, as part of the Leonard Bernstein Festival at Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

At 2 pm, Jamie Bernstein, daughter of the late Mr Bernstein, who composed the film’s score, will talk about the musical’s creation, how her father constructed its unforgettable music, and why the story remains forever contemporary.

West Side Story won 11 Oscars and remains one of the best-loved films of all time. It stars Natalie wood, Richard Beymer and Rita Moreno and features such classic songs as “Maria,” “Tonight,” and “There’s A Place for Us.”

Ms Bernstein is a writer and broadcaster who has worked to preserve her father’s legacy since his death in 1900.

Tickets are $7. For tickets, call the Quick Center box office at 203-254-4010 or 877-ARTS-396 (877-278-7396). For more information, visit QuickCenter.com.
